My menagerie of rod puppets consists of a diverse mix of mythical creatures, humans, and animals. From a peacock to bigfoot nobody is alike. Every puppet is attired from various sources of inspiration, from a 1950’s haute couture to modern-day middle management; the array of creatures is executed with an array of threads. This village of puppets all fall on three backdrops: a quaint village road, a fantastical forest home, and a comforting library.
The whimsy with which I approach my puppet-building was built through my childhood and into my adulthood. I never stopped playing, and I incorporate my love of play into my work. I keep my collection in textiles as much as I possibly can. Built from paper clay, coated in textile pigments, and dressed head to toe in wovens, knits, felt, and embellished fabric. I find comfort in the inherent softness and comfort of textiles, and that is the root of this collection.
