Autumn Cottage
Simple Rod Puppets
This puppetry project started in the spring of 2025 during my time at the Univeristy of Wisconsin-Madison. This was the first major puppet project I undertook and created a collection of 12 rod puppets. Each crafted with different techniques in a multi-media facet. By using spun cotton, paper clay, patternmaking, sewing, embroidery, crochet, knitting, felting, and painting I was able to not only create something beautiful but also tale the opportunity to learn and grow from this foundational expiereience.
The Moodboard
The inspiration came from stop motion films and the general coziness around a midwest autumn. Growing up in an area that experinces all four seasons, fall is always a big time for everyone in this area. Fall represents a transition and change as well as harvest. A time to share what we have an abundance of. I wanted to bring a whimsy to this collection by using animals in a human space. Such a a baker frog, a professor cat, and a schoolgirl squirrel.
The Sketches
As I move forward with my puppetry and world building I will take this expeirence with me and build from it. This project foudned my love for puppetry and for character creation. With the use of felting, sewing, embroidery, papermaking, and textural scultpture I am able to create wondorous pieces. As I continue my journey in puppetry and world-building, I will carry this experience with me and use it as a foundation for my future projects. This endeavor has deepened my love for puppetry and character creation. Through the use of felting, sewing, embroidery, papermaking, and textural sculpture, I am able to create wondrous pieces.
